We are very pleased to announce that the winner of the “ A Day of Antiquing” Contest is:

Martha Scandrett

I’m not sure what this piece of furniture is called or when it was

manufactured, the 70¹s, I imagine.

I bought it on impulse in 2006 for $400.00.

It sat for weeks on my balcony unattended as I decided what to do.

Brilliantly crafted except for the Avocado relief.

I eventually found a refinisher and paid $750.00 to refinish it along with

two other pieces.  A steal!

Lo and behold this gem is Mahogany!

The beauty of the piece is that it closes up into a compact chest of

drawers.

Add 2 leaves it transforms into my daily workstation.

Add the other 3 (5 total) leaves and it becomes my 7 foot dining room table!

Congratulations Martha!  This is a fantastic piece and great find.

We look forward to spending the day with you antiquing at the Christie Antiques Show.

Thank you to everyone who participated.

Wishing you a wonderful long weekend!

Although recently my interest in antiquing has waned, back in the 80’s, I was a fanatic.  My weekends were filled with searching out country markets and antique fairs for the perfect finds.  I was into anything from the art deco or art nouveau era.  Anything that reflected the glamorous decadence or that was shiny would do – from flatware, cigarette holders or lighters, salt and pepper shakers, fine linens and my most favourite – my martini shakers.

When Daina from Continuum Modern Vintage and I attended the Christie Antiques Show in the spring, we wondered how we could bring this experience to my readers.  So we decided to have a little contest.

Here’s how it works:

Starting now – Just send in a picture of your favourite antique find with a little description and why it’s your favourite to my email, located in the Contact Us box to the right.  The last day to enter will be on September 2nd.

On September 3rd a winner will be announced. The winner will be our guest for the day at the Christie Antiques Show on Saturday September 11, where we will have fun discovering treasures. And lunch will be provided.

That’s it! Simple.

Conditions – Participants must be 18 or older, love antiques and live in the Toronto area proper.  If the winner lives outside of the city, you will be asked to meet us at the show.  Be prepared to be picked up at 7am, on Saturday Sept. 11 and spend most of the day at the show unless we all decide to leave earlier.  If the winner is looking for a particular piece, please keep in mind that space in my Honda CRV is limited to small pieces only.  Lunch will be provided from the show vendors, so if there are any dietary restrictions please let us know.

Cheers!
