What’s your capacity to understand? To withstand? To produce? To learn? To love? Is your cup half full or is it half empty? How much of who you are is what you collect? Is infinity possible?

These are the questions posed by 10 amazing female designers in their attempt to define “Capacity” and how it applies to who we are and what we do.

Capacity opened last night at Bookhou on Dundas St. as part of the Toronto International Design Festival.  Curated by Erin McCutcheon and Katherine Morley, the fact that it is an all female show is intentional.  Believe it or not gender inequality is ever-present in the design industry.   So Erin and Katherine felt compelled to shed light on the outstanding work women do in design.  And without a doubt the work at this show is brilliant, well conceived, clever and meaningful to the theme.

Here’s a sneak peek:

Curator Katherine Morley and graphic designer Dana Harrison, Eleven Ideas

I love this “Maker” sofa by Michelle Ivankovic.  Made of fitness balls held together by a fabric exoskeleton.

Maiwenn Castellan’s LIAM Mailbox is brilliant!  This I gotta have.

Kirsten White’s NEST 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 are so clever. Each chair is a scaled down version of the larger one. Made of Baltic birch plywood and covered in industrial felt.

More amazing pieces by Ange-line Tetrault, Arounna Khounnoraj, Nathalie Nahas, Joy Charbonneau, Ayla Newhouse, Erin McCutcheon and Katherine Morley can be seen at Bookhou, 798 Dundas St. W at Palmerston, Toronto, until Feb.6.

Don’t delay and get down there soon!

Cheers!
