Earthship Biotecture is concerned with one thing “Putting Housing Back into the Hands of the People” of Haiti.
Their mandate “We do not want people to become dependant on products that we make or any country makes. We want people to be empowered by the ability to create sustenance for themselves, and in doing so, create employment, jobs, a mini economy. An entire method that is independent of corporations, largely independent of oil, independent of politics.”
With direct donations from the public on their site they raised $7000 which paid for travel expenses, local accommodations and food, shots, feeding the Haitian build crew and buying materials.
Once there, it took them 4 ½ days to build a self-sustainable structure that is earthquake and hurricane resistant, all from garbage found within one mile from the site. And the best part is that Earthship taught the local Haitians how to make this structure.
Earthship Biotecture have plans to go back down to Haiti in October of this year and continue this project.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
