Thank goodness for IDS to break up the ho-humness of the winter.
This week is a Big Design Week in Toronto. Yeah!! Not only is the Interior Design Show on, starting Thursday night with a fantastic party, but it’s also the debut of Toronto’s International Design Festival featuring parties, exhibits, tours and more….
IDS: The Main Event From Jan. 21 -24
The Interior Design Show is Toronto’s contemporary design event where hundreds of international and local designers showcase their wares. Every year it gets better and this year is no exception. You’ll see the latest in euro-kitchens with Scavolini and lighting with Artecnica. This year, A New Era, showcases 10 finalists in their rug design competition (one I entered but didn’t place), which includes designs from interior design firm 64th and Queen and KPMB Architects. It’s always exciting to see the best in homegrown furniture, lighting and textiles with Studio North and Prototype exhibits. And if you get a chance, go over to the Azure sponsored Trade Talks for hear some of the hottest designers and architects share their stories on Trade Day. And on Saturday there are Trend Talk Workshops, which shouldn’t be missed. It’s in a new location this year, so take note -the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
TIDF: Festival Fervour Jan 19 -24
This first time event will host a myriad of events throughout the city. Such as, this very compelling symposium “Conversations in design: A World Without Oil” held at the Design Exchange. And my favourite event is always “ Come Up To My Room”, where over 50 budding talents feature their work at the Gladstone. And there’s tons more to see and do. Go to the site and download the festival guide and also a Pass, which gives you 20% off any event during the festival.
Have Fun!
